Mason County Sheriff's Office:  Donate Your Old Cellphone

The Mason County Sheriff’s Office has announced a new partnership with the 911 Cell Phone Bank.

The Mason County Sheriff’s Office will now be collecting old and unwanted cellular telephones through citizen donations.  The cellular telephones will be sent into the 911 Cell Phone Bank and converted into an emergency telephone that is only able to dial 911.  The telephones will have no other personal service attached to them.  The cellular telephones will then be available to be distributed to senior citizens and victims of domestic violence.

Along with the telephone, it is encouraged for the donator to also donate the wall charger and any batteries.  The Mason County Sheriff’s Office will also accept broken cellular telephones so that they can be sent in for proper recycling.

If you are interested in making a donation, please contact the Mason County Sheriff’s Office at 309-543-2231 and speak with Officer Amanda Herrick or stop in the lobby and drop off your phone at the window.

The 911 Cell Phone Bank is an initiative of the Charitable Recycling Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.  It is endorsed and partnered with the National Sheriffs’ Association, the National Association of Triads and the National Organization for Victim Assistance.  All contributions are tax deductible.

Currently there are over 1400 agencies participating in this program with over 92,000 phones distributed.  If you would like more information on the 911 Cell Phone Bank they are on the web at:  www.911cellphonebank.org
