Homeland Security Funds Granted To Sheriff's Office
Sheriff Wayne Youell announced today that the Mason County Sheriff’s Office was notified that their February 2004 grant request was approved and the sheriff’s office will be awarded over $28,000 of Homeland Security funds to not only purchase new state of the art portable and mobile radios, but also a repeater system for each of the sheriff’s office’s fleet of vehicles. A vehicle repeater system will give deputies the capability to use their 5-watt portable radios in the remotest areas throughout the region by enabling the portable to transmit through the squad car’s mobile repeater system and instead use the squad’s 45 to 100 watt mobile radio. “This is a huge move forward for the Mason County Sheriff’s Office,” said Sheriff Wayne Youell. “Reliable portable and mobile radios are absolutely critical to achieve success and ensure the safety of our law enforcement officers and the citizens we serve. I am very excited where we are going.”
