Maon County Awarded Pegasus Program

Mason County Sheriff Wayne Youell has announced that the Mason County Sheriff’s Office was awarded a grant for the Pegasus Program.

Funded by Congress, Pegasus is a nationwide information sharing system designed by and for Sheriffs and other local law enforcement. It is a web-based system providing a directory, alert & notification, automated data exchange, and a messaging service at no cost to sheriffs. With more than 720 law enforcement agencies in 31 states now participating, the Mason County Sheriff’s Office was among the first seven Illinois law enforcement agencies to sign on and use the Pegasus System.

Although the number of records in the Pegasus System is constantly changing with agencies contributing new records daily, more than 7,000,000 law enforcement records are available to law enforcement agencies when the authorized users access the system with an approved identification name, password and fingerprint. “The Pegasus Program already has shown to be very useful in our investigations and I am confident that this system will greatly enhance the interagency information sharing abilities of our office,” said Youell.
