Mason County Sheriff's Office:  Public Safety Target Hardening Grant

Today, Sheriff Wayne Youell announced that the Mason County Sheriff’s Office has been awarded a grant from the Illinois Law Enforcement Alarm System (I.L.E.A.S.) in the amount of $32,150.00 to enhance the security of both the Mason County Detention Facility and Courthouse.  This is part of an effort by the Mason County Sheriff’s Office, ILEAS, and the State of Illinois to prepare and prevent terrorist acts.  “Mason County is very fortunate to have been approved for this public safety target hardening grant”, said Youell.  “This grant will be used to upgrade the dated, fifteen year old security system that is currently in use at the Mason County Detention Facility and fund a new security surveillance system at our courthouse.  Both systems will feature all-time recording ability for both buildings and allow remote control viewing of live images from any authorized workstation that are located in either or both the Detention Facility and Courthouse.

The grant is U.S. Department of Homeland Security funding that was provided by ILEAS by the Illinois Terrorism Task Force.  The task force has over sixty member agencies consisting of cities, counties, public health, transportation, law enforcement, fire service, emergency management, and other disciplines throughout the state.  The task force is the entity responsible for developing and implementing the State of Illinois’ homeland security program to prevent or respond to acts of terrorism.
